Review for Toshiba Portege Z835-P360 13.3-Inch Ultrabook (Silver) (Personal Computers) I am the owner of a really cool looking but flimsy laptop with an LCD display that cracked a week after I received it. During a plane trip, it sat in an overhead bin in a well-padded computer bag. The bin was relatively empty and nothing was on top of the bag. When I got home, the display was cracked.

I have called Toshiba's warranty department as well as the repair service line, and both have refused to make the repair, saying that it's not covered by the warranty. While that's typical, it's atypical for companies not to fix problems that occur in the first 15 days after a purchase, or at least offer a repair at a discounted price. The folks on the phone were polite and I'm sure they were acting as trained, but they didn't seem to have any interest in trying to solve my problem in any way besides making Toshiba more money off of me. They refused to give a precise estimate for repairing the LCD, but I gather that it's in the $500-700 range, and I can replace the machine with a higher-quality, non-Toshiba laptop for that price.

If you do want to buy this flimsy machine, you'll want to buy the extended damage warranty that's apparently available but I don't remember being offered to me on Amazon. The plastic casing for the display panel is not solid but bends to the touch, which is why a very normal use scenario wound up damaging my display.

This was my first time to buy a Toshiba product, and it will be my last.
